Do You Take Time Off?

John Lennon quote about wasting time.

Studies have shown that taking time away from the job can have physical and mental health benefits. People who take time have lower stress, less risk of heart disease, a better outlook on life, and more motivation to achieve goals. As a business owners, we may say things like once I have 3 more clients then I can take time off. Or once I finish this proposal, then I can take time off.

How often do you take time off?

Your Vibrant Living Tip

According to Forbes, taking vacation could save your life.

I’m translating vacation to taking time off…

Here are 3 of the benefits of taking time off that Forbes mentions.

Improves heart health

Taking regular time off could help reduce the risk for metabolic syndrome—a cluster of health issues including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess belly fat and abnormal cholesterol levels.

Reduces stress

Stress raises levels of certain hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline. In the short term, this can be helpful, triggering the “fight or flight” response that helps you deal with immediate threats. But over time, chronic stress can increase your risk for health issues, including heart disease.

Boosts brainpower

Taking time off improves the capacity to learn. When your brain is completely relaxed, it consolidates knowledge and brainpower.

That's why you have your best ideas on a walk, in the shower or on vacation.

I keep a paper and pen next to my bed to capture ideas during my morning mediation.

For those of you who may be stressed about the thought of taking time off, know it doesn’t have to be a long time. It could be a 20 minute walk or sitting with your eyes closed for 15 minutes.

Whatever you can do to get your mind off things at least once a day.

Your Vibrant Living Take Away

Make a conscious decision to take time off. Step away for 15 minutes or half hour. You can get back to work with fresh eyes and renewed stamina.

Comment what you are doing today to take time off.

Until next time…

Dream bravely.
Act Boldly.
Live Vibrantly.

Because I am an independent financial advisor my phone is always on. Therefore I take random time off whenever my cup overflows. I listen to my body and it tells me when I need a break.

It’s great to listen to your body. Try taking time off before your cup over flows and see if that helps.
